Don’t let others transmit their fears on to you

Embarking on a solo journey is an exciting but overwhelming experience, especially when it comes to informing family and friends. It’s important to distinguish between their concerns and the actual risks involved in traveling alone. While loved ones may share exaggerated and biased stories they’ve heard, it’s essential to remember that unexpected incidents can happen anywhere, not just in the places we plan to visit.

Do your own research on a place

Thankfully, there are numerous online resources available to research destinations before traveling. Websites like The Culture Trip and travel books such as “Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Travel: Our List of the 500 Best Places to See… Ranked” offer inspiration and valuable information. Additionally, checking government websites for travel advisories and vaccination requirements is a necessary step. Once a destination is chosen, it’s wise to thoroughly research the area, especially regarding safety and potential risks.

Use common sense & trust your intuition

Trusting our intuition is crucial when traveling alone. Although it’s common for others to think it’s unsafe, my solo trip to South America was incredibly fulfilling. I remained vigilant by conducting thorough research, avoiding nighttime activities, and prioritizing my safety. Making decisions based on clear judgment and trusting my instincts led to unforgettable experiences.

PLAN TO DO ALL OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WOULD DO WITH A TRAVEL PARTNER

Traveling alone doesn’t mean being alone. In fact, it can be easier to make new friends and fully enjoy the freedom to explore different places and activities. Embracing the independence to dine alone was a significant milestone for me, and it’s something I now enjoy, even when not traveling.

LET SOMEONE KNOW WHERE YOU ARE

Lastly, always inform someone about your plans and whereabouts, particularly a trusted individual who can be kept in the loop. This simple precaution can provide peace of mind for both yourself and your loved ones. Additionally, there are various smartphone apps available to share your location and ensure safety while traveling solo.
